SURGICAL SERVICES

We offer a variety of surgical services here at The Dental Centre. It should always be remembered that any surgical or invasive procedure carries a risk. To this end, we will always be happy to help organise a second opinion from an appropriately qualified practitioner and we maintain a close professional relationship with visiting oral surgeons.

Dental implants can be used to replace missing teeth and mimic a natural tooth root and crown in both function and appearance. The base of an implant is a titanium screw, which is positioned inside the jaw bone in the region of the missing tooth root. Once the implant foundation is in position, the surrounding bone begins to grow around it and will eventually bond to the implant. This provides a strong, stable foundation to which a crown or bridge can be attached to replace the missing tooth.

Your implant procedure generally requires just a small incision in the gum line to allow placement of the titanium implant. You should be completely comfortable during the procedure with the help of local anaesthetic and often will be able to return to your normal daily routine the following day.

Once your implant has bonded, we then construct your brand new tooth replacement and attach this to provide a sustainable chewing improvement and rejuvenation of your smile.

With dental implants you can once again achieve a beautiful, complete smile that is stable, functional and reliable.

If your wisdom teeth do not have enough room to emerge they may cause difficulties as they grow and develop in each corner of your mouth. In such cases, extraction is often the best solution.

Every patient is different and, while some wisdom teeth can be simply removed under local anaesthesia, impacted teeth will often require a minor surgical procedure in hospital. We can determine your personal situation upon examination at The Dental Centre.

On some occasions, after we have explored alternatives, a tooth needs to be extracted. This may be due to extensive decay, bone infection, an irreparable fracture or impacted wisdom teeth.

Once your tooth is removed, we can advise you on your options for a suitable replacement such as a fixed or removable bridge or dental implants.
